All relevant checks are completed on staff - CRB enhanced checks, medical checks, employment history and references prior to them commencing employment with us. All our staff commence NVQ3 or NVQ4 depending upon experience within 3 months of commencing employment.
Our recruitment policy outlines our selection procedure, induction, training, retention and staff development approach within an underlying principle of equality of opportunity.
We recognise the strength of individuals within the team and also recognise that our strength as a team lies in developing our individual abilities, experience and strengths.
Support, supervision and training
We operate a 24 hour on call service to staff on duty for consultation and information as a means of providing on-the-spot supervision. We recognise that staff on duty may need different levels of support after some volatile and difficult situation that may arise as part of their duty.
Staff meetings are held on a fortnightly basis. These are important forums for discussion, group supervision, training and development. Staff are given supervision on a fortnightly basis or monthly basis depending on experience. This is specifically to look at their practice and development.
We emphasis the value of 'ad hoc' group supervision as a means of promoting stability and consistency within the team.
Regular training is provided for all staff, particularly in areas of child protection, behaviour management, and communicating with children. All staff are expected to complete a number of training courses within the first 6 months of employment. These include the team teach approach, child protection foundation course, health and safety, food hygiene, first aid and reporting and recording.
