Therapy Back to Menu
Any specific therapeutic technique is only used if specified in the young person's placement plan and specifically approved by the placing authority, the young person's parent.
Specific therapeutic techniques used within the home are behaviour modification, identity work, task-centred, anger management, life story work, basic counselling, problem solving, solution focussed brief therapy and individual direct work with young people.
The home is able to offer therapeutic assessments and interventions with young people accommodated at the home. Any therapeutic intervention is supervised by an independent RGN, RMN, RHV, Cert Dip, MSc in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapies and UKCP registered and BABCP accredited therapist.
Under the supervision of our therapist we are able to offer a range of behaviour modification programmes, e.g. anger management, stress and anxiety, depression, experiencing emotional disturbance and functioning and addictive behaviours. Cognitive, behavioural and emotive techniques are employed to examine and modify dysfunctional thoughts, thereby helping to halt this perception process.
The manager and the staff team receive regular supervision with our therapist where therapeutic interventions are discussed and reviewed.
The project staff has considerable experience in operating "Solution Focussed Brief Therapy". The way this works is to help young people look at what it is they would like to change in their life and would most like to see happen, using a step by step approach. If for example the placement is for some respite from family home or foster care then we will utilise the knowledge and understanding of their situation and any difficulties and challenges they are facing. We would then encourage the young person and their carers to use this knowledge to find aspects of their lives together that do work well and see if there are parts of this that could point a way to solving the difficulties they are facing. Where it is appropriate weekly and achievable steps will be planned out and staff will assist young people to work towards them and build together a record of achievements to plot progress.
