Health arrangements

We recognise that children who may have been subject to a series of placements may not have received continuity of health care.

Members of staff will take a pro-active role with regard to children's health and if the length of placement allows - the child will be registered with the local GP, dentist and optician. Regular checks will be initiated.

We will help and encourage children to understand the importance of health care and where appropriate to take responsibility for their own health, ensuring that they understand the effects of smoking, substance misuse, sexual matter.

A health record will be kept for each child. This will record all relevant information such as routine checks, illnesses, medication, injections, etc.

We recognise that all children and young people over and under the age of 16 who are considered capable of understanding and making their own decisions can refuse medical treatment. In this case, 1 will be appropriately recorded.
