Admission policy

It is expected that during the first week of a placement, a placement meeting will be set up to agree the child's placement plan and risk assessment. These meetings will be between the registered manager for the respective home, the child, the social worker and the designated key-worker for the child. Throughout the placement period the statutory looked after child care system will be operated and regular planning meetings will be organised.

Admission procedure

Initial referral: if on receipt of a completed referral form it is considered appropriate to proceed the registered manager will contact the child's social worker to arrange a pre-admission meeting. We expect referrals to include children who exhibit volatile, challenging behaviour. To this end we value frank exchanges of information from placing authorities, as we need as much information as possible to consider any referral and enable us to provide an adequate service.

The registered manager will contact the social worker to arrange a visit to the home initially with the child and to discuss the child's referral in more detail. The visit gives the child an opportunity to discuss their expectations of the placement and vice-versa. On admission a child will have already been made aware of our expectations and routines. They will receive an information pack containing useful details about the local area and the daily running of the home.

Discharge procedure

In most situations a discharge will be planned and will allow relevant time. However, in exceptional circumstances a social worker may be asked to remove a child in view of the child behaviours. We endeavour to avoid this situation, but it must be accepted that when dealing with volatile, difficult children it cannot be ruled out.

Emergency placements

Many referrals request emergency placements. Upon receipt of a completed referral form and detailed discussions with the child's social worker the registered manager will make a decision. The decision will depend mainly upon the situation that already exists in the home. Consideration is always given to the safety and security of the current placements. Our homes are able to take same-day referrals.
